Genius find by Gilbert - nice one matey.

May I suggest Sabrina's "Boys, boys, boys" video :) GIGGIDY!
[music] New album: United Future Organization - 3rd Perspective
Amazon page
Just received my copy of this - it wasn't easy to find. I heard it one post-drinking evening at la maison de Gilbert and thought it was great. If you like Propellerheads' Desckanddrumsandrockandroll then you'll like this. An eclectic mix of spy-like themes mixed in with deep bass and some French and/or English lyrics for good measure.
Tasty.

[gig] the black keys!
Lovely Jen has just booked a whole ton of tickets for the black keys at the London Forum. Get in!
I've only seen them once - at New York's Irving Plaza. They're not exactly showmen (there's only 2 of them in the band) but they're absolutely amazing live. Can't wait (until October...)

[music vid] The Prodigy - "Out of Space"
This track practically defined my teen years. This is the prodigy when they were good (take note "Firestarter"-lovers); the "Experience" album captured the rave scene perfectly. The follow-up "Music for a Jilted Generation" was just as on-the-pulse and I love it just as much. It also had the coolest inlay I'd seen up until then (bottom of this page). Sadly, in my opinion, it all went downhill from there...

[weird] test tube meat nears the dinner table
This is just plain odd. Scientists are close to mass producing meat - yes meat - in a bioreactor (hold it! My bullshit science-term senses are tingling) from stem cells.
There are obvious benefits to this - no need to kill live creatures, potentially wipe out world hunger etc. But… it's just… odd. I can't say for sure why it bothers me but I can't imagine eating a burger I know has been grown in a lab. Which is stupid because animals grow themselves and I eat that. And people couldn't imagine a world that wasn't flat either, but still - it's odd.
Would you be OK with it?

[geek] Gmail on your mobile
This has been done before, but now google are doing it right. Works very well.

2. point it to http://m.gmail.com
3. Login
4. Read emails!

[geek] Google maps on your mobile
I was doing a bit of digging around in the subdomains of google and came across a google mobile maps page. Nothing on there to download, but if you follow the instructions below (from the page) you'll be able to add fully functional worldwide google maps with map view, satellite view, routing - everything to any java-enabled phone.
It's identical to the google maps website and in my opinion is amazing. It's going to be so useful - I can use it in London (a global search for "Camden" took me straight to the London site) and in New York etc.
1. Activate your GPRS web browser on your phone (mine's a Sony Ericsson K750i)
2. Enter the URL: www.google.com/gmm
3. Agree to download the tiny 93K file
4. Map away!
It's free from Google, but you'll pay yuor carrier/network for the data transfer (as with any data transfer)

[random] Another bloody loopy time in New York
Got back from Ny this morning at 7:30am UK time and have come straight to the office. Am now seeing more hallucinations than Jim Morrison smacked up on peyote.
I headed over on Thursday morning for business. We were at our NY office to pitch for a new piece of business that I've introduced to our agency. The pitch was Friday and went very well. Cue us heading to a bar for Guinness, a very swanky restaurant for great red wine, gin & tonic and champagne. Then I was charged with sorting my compadres out for a little pick-me-up so I steered them down to the always-willing Radio Perfecto where the lovely Meghan (sp?) proceeded to make me her specialty espresso martinis, cucumber martinis and a few Jamesons to boot.
Since I'm the only one of our number that doesn't partake of the pick-me-ups you can imagine what that amount of celebratory drink coupled with severe jetlag can do to a man (and given that Mon-Wed I did 3 x 15-hour days it's even worse). So by 4:30am I was a zombie and the boys chucked me in a cab. 3 hours sleep later, I'm up and heading to my best mate's to watch England play the dullest game of footie in a while. Managed to make it to Central Bar until 2pm at which point I was frazzled. Planning to crash for 6 hours and rejoin the fray at 8 or so I went back to the hotel. I woke up after 17 hours sleep on Sunday morning :)
Oh well. It was a blast. Met some lovely ladies (I don't remember swapping numbers but hey! What the hell - that was a bonus find the next day :) ), showed my workmates how we like to party in NY and (possibly) secured a whopping piece of business.
Plus it's 30C here in London (90F for you internationals). Get in.
Oh and Australia have just made it 2:1 after being 0:1 down to Japan in the World Cup :)

[gig] Mofro - June 1st 2006 @ Camden Jazz Cafe
Have only just got around to blogging this. What a great day and amazing gig. After initially just being me and 1 mate going I managed to spread the Mofro love (i.e. album) to 7 others and form a Mofro-loving gang :)
We fired up to Camden for drinks on the roof terrace of the Lock Tavern, followed by wine & food at Wagamamas. With the doors not opening until 11pm at Camden's Jazz Cafe, this was a very wise move :)
The gig was outstanding. JJ Grey had smartened up, cut his locks, trimmed the beard and he wore a shirt. I actually didn't realise the band was on until they played - I thought it was a warm up act :)
It was quite empty in there - 50 or so people - since it was such a late gig. But between the Hammond organ kicking in and JJ's outstanding vocals and mouth organ work it sounded incredible. Even better than when I saw them at the gig in Bush Hall in Shepherd's Bush. Midget managed to get hold of JJ autograph and get him to suggest other tunes we'd like. I have the Bill Withers live album but none of the others. Top fella and nice work midget!

[photos] Table football tournament June 3rd 2006
Had a blast at eevilmidget's table football tournament. 4 or so months of planning, we were all assigned a team mate and a country and had to dress appropriately (as attested to by the invite below):
I, as the USA, decided to go the whole hog and got hold of an American Football player fancy dress outfit. Great outfit (in fact, I won a very funky prize as a result) but on the hottest day we've had this year it was pretty crazy :)
I was suffering from major burnout after being on a 2-week bender with my newly-single mate at work (Jim, I was in the kind of state we get in at the end of my trip to NY) but had a great time nonetheless. Just couldn't attend the BBQ after the bar (9:30pm) - had to drag my sorry arse home to bed :(
Here's a link to a ton of great photos from the day. I've set it up so you shouldn't have to join the site, but let me know in the comments if that's not the case: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48147695@N00/sets/72157594155449671/show/
Really crazy week ahead as I prepare to head to New York again on Thursday for a new business pitch on Friday. Then the 1st England world cup game on Saturday (which I'm staying in NY for) so don't see any quiet time for a while...

[buy] T-shirt
Just bought this t-shirt:
Through the magic of that there Intraweb, I found a coupon for $3.00 off. With shipping to the UK (from US) it comes to $20 or £10.73 in real money. Which is cheaper than buying one here. Which is a bit mad.
Huzzah!

[vid] Let's invade... um...
A mate sent me this. My geography's not great, but for fuck's sake - these people are moronic.
Got home late last night, channel-hopped while cooking food and caught Big Brother. Having never watched it before (not 1 part of any of the umpteen series) I gave it a shot. 3 people had an argument for 5 minutes. Then I switched it off. It was great. Really.
